SELF REPLACING PRIME LAMB GENETICS are the main feature of the CHROME Coopworth and Maternal Composite stud located at Hamilton in the Southwest of Victoria. Self replacing prime lamb flocks are becoming much more popular all over the country in recent times as the numbers of merino ewes dwindle making traditional 1st X ewes extremely expensive and out of reach for many prime lamb producers. Coopworth and Maternal Composite rams main use is in self replacing prime lamb flocks, however can be used very successfully as a 1st cross sire over any sort of ewes. This eliminates the need to buy in expensive replacement ewes, and also reduces the risk of introducing diseases such as footrot, OJD, lice or resistant worms. Aside to these benefits probably the most important thing is that the farmer has control over his/her current and future genetics. These sheep are highly fertile with outstanding mothering and milking ability, allowing ewes to be able to have and rear multiple lambs to marketable weights. THE MATERNAL BRED WETHER LAMBS BEING A WELL MUSCLED AND HIGH QUALITY CARCASE CAN BE SOLD AT A PREMIUM WHEN COMPARED TO TRADITIONAL 1ST X WETHER LAMBS. In more recent times careful infusions of Tattykeel genetics have been infused to the stud. Deep bodied rams with big hindquarters have been infused alongside current industry leading Lambplan benchmark sires. Embryo Transfer has advanced the quality and quality of our sale rams in recent years and the majority of our top sale rams and stud sires are now bred via ET.
